Sacrifice (2016 film) — easy summary

Sacrifice is a 2016 American thriller written and directed by Peter A. Dowling, based on the novel Sacrifice by Sharon Bolton. The film stars Radha Mitchell as Dr. Tora Hamilton and Rupert Graves as her husband, Duncan Guthrie. It was shot in Ireland, on the Shetland Islands, and in New York City.

Plot
Dr. Tora Hamilton, an obstetrician, moves with her husband to a remote area of the Shetland Islands. While exploring the land around their new home, she finds the body of a girl with runes carved into her skin and a missing heart. As Tora investigates, she uncovers connections to an ancient legend and a chilling secret kept by the island’s men: they believe themselves to be a race called the Kunal-Trows who abduct women to bear children and then kill them nine days after birth. The suspected cult is tied to the local adoption system and to people close to Tora, including her husband’s family. Tora is aided by Dana Tulloch, a six‑weeks‑pregnant policewoman who survives a kidnapping. In the end, Tora fights to protect Dana and her baby; her husband turns against the cult, and a member of the older generation dies.
