Port Botany is a suburb in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, New South Wales, Australia. It is about 12 kilometres south of Sydney’s city centre, in the City of Randwick. The area sits on the northern shore of Botany Bay, next to Matraville, Banksmeadow and Phillip Bay.

Botany Bay is famous as the place where Captain James Cook first landed on 29 April 1770 during his voyage on the Endeavour. Cook’s journals also mention Sting Rays’ Harbour and Botanist Bay before settling on Botany Bay. Naturalists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander spent several days there collecting new plant specimens.

At Molineaux Point you can see views to La Perouse and Kurnell. A cairn and plaque mark the sister ports relationship between Sydney Ports Corporation and Yokkaichi Port Authority of Mie, Japan. The nearby revetment wall is named Banks Wall after Sir Joseph Banks.

Port Botany is a major commercial area with two container terminals, plus a bulk liquids facility and storage. It is well served by roads and rail and is close to Sydney’s international and domestic airports.
