Pleurothallis ascera
Pleurothallis ascera is an orchid native to Colombia. It grows in the Andes at about 1,800 meters above sea level and lives as an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants rather than in soil. The plant has stout, upright ramicauls (a type of stem) that are wrapped in tubular sheaths. Its flowers are about 2.5 centimeters across. The species was described by Carlyle A. Luer and Rodrigo Escobar in 1996.
