Platon Aleksandrovich Zubov (1835–1890) was a Russian nobleman, privy councilor, landowner, and philanthropist. He was born in Saint Petersburg into the Zubov and Suvorov families. He served in the Crimean War with the Kazan Jaeger Regiment, fighting at the Battle of Alma and during the siege of Sevastopol. He owned a very large estate—more than 56,000 hectares. Zubov used his wealth to help others. From 1868 to 1871 he was a trustee of the House of the Poor under the Imperial Philanthropic Society. From 1871 to 1890 he was a trustee of the Ivanovo Girls’ School, giving 2,000 rubles a year and leaving 30,000 rubles in his will; his funds helped rebuild and expand the school building. He married Vera Sergeevna Plautina in 1869, and they had four children, including Valentin Zubov.
