TUBE1 (tubulin epsilon 1) is a human gene that encodes a protein in the tubulin family, which forms microtubules—the cell’s structural framework. The TUBE1 protein localizes to the centriolar sub-distal appendages on the older centriole after the centrosome duplicates and plays a central role in organizing microtubules during centriole duplication. The gene is located on chromosome 6q21 in humans (about 112.07–112.09 Mb). The mouse version is on chromosome 10. TUBE1 is expressed in many tissues, including the cerebellum, oocytes, pancreas, uterus, liver, heart, thymus, and retina, indicating a broad role in cell structure and division. The protein binds GTP and is involved in cytoskeleton organization and microtubule-based processes.
