Illinois State Bank Building

The Illinois State Bank Building is a historic bank at 201 N. Chestnut St. in Assumption, Illinois. It was built in 1900 to replace an 1883 building that burned down in 1899. Local architect Ira Tobias designed the bank and gave it a distinctive tower above the front entrance, a signature of his work that appears on two other Assumption buildings. The bank operated here until 1933, handling about 80–85% of Assumption’s banking business. Later, the building housed the Assumption Building and Loan Association and the law offices of George J. LaCharite. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1984.
