Choly Berreteaga, born Maria Esther Brañeiro on 9 October 1927 in Larouco, Galicia, Spain, was an Argentine chef, TV presenter, and writer. Her family moved to Castelar in Buenos Aires Province in the late 1940s for health reasons. She taught at a local school before starting television work. In 1963, she was invited to cook live on the Channel 13 program Buenas Tardes, Mucho Gusto, after her niece Alicia encouraged her to apply. Beginning in 1986, she worked on the TV show Utilísima and cooked on air until she was 86 years old, ending with a series called 50 Years with Choly. She published more than 50 cookbooks; Easy Cooking for the Modern Woman (1976) became a best-seller in Argentina, and The Cuisine of Our Land (1991) is another notable work. She also wrote fiction, including La Casa Olvidada (The Forgotten House). In 2009 she was declared an illustrious citizen of Morón, and in 2014 she received the Norma Pla Prize from the University of Morón. She died on 26 December 2018 in Buenos Aires, aged 91. She married Tiago Berreteaga in 1955, taking his surname, and they had twins, Claudia María and Luis; Tiago died in 2010.
