Pilu Momtaz
Pilu Momtaz (c. 1953 – 23 May 2011) was a Bangladeshi singer and musician. She was born in Dhaka, then part of East Pakistan, as the third of seven daughters of the famous singer Ustad Momtaz Ali. She began her singing career soon after Bangladesh gained independence in 1971.
Her music spanned pop, modern (adhunik), and blues rock, and she was also a songwriter. Notable songs include "Ekdin Tho Choley Jabo", "Chara Gaachh-e Phool Phuitachhey", and "Majhi Nao Chhaira Dey" (written by Jasimuddin).
Her last public performance was at the 2010 Citycell-Channel i Music Awards, where she performed "Ek Second-er Nai Bhorosha" alongside Fakir Alamgir and Ferdous Wahid as a tribute to the late singer Firoz Shai.
She had a sister named Dipu Momtaz and was the third of seven sisters. She was married to Lieutenant Colonel Anwaruzzaman, and they had a daughter, Homayra Zaman Mou.
Pilu Momtaz died of a heart attack at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka on 23 May 2011, at the age of 58.
