David McLeod
David Leroy McLeod (born August 15, 1971) is a former American football player who spent seven seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL). He played as a wide receiver and defensive back for the Albany Firebirds, Grand Rapids Rampage, Carolina Cobras, and Tampa Bay Storm.
McLeod grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and attended Highland Springs High School. He played college football at James Madison University from 1990 to 1993, where he set school records including 1,207 receiving yards in 1993, a single-game 192 receiving yards, and career marks of 158 receptions, 2,899 yards, and 21 touchdowns. He was inducted into the James Madison Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020.
In 1996, McLeod became the AFL’s first Defensive Player of the Year and was a second-team All-Arena selection. He went undrafted in 1994 but signed with the Arizona Cardinals and later the New York Jets, before continuing his career in the AFL. His AFL career totals include 187 receptions, 2,809 receiving yards, 62 total touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He stood 6 feet tall and weighed 180 pounds during his playing days.
