Da Grassroots
Da Grassroots (also known as Da Grass Roots Music) is a Canadian hip-hop production team from Toronto, Ontario. The group has been active since 1989 and features Mr. Attic and Mr. Murray, with Swiff as a past member who died in 2018. They helped shape Toronto’s hip-hop scene in the 1990s and won a Juno Award. Their debut album, Passage Through Time, came out in 1999. In 1994, they were featured in Andrew Munger’s documentary Make Some Noise. After their rise, the members pursued solo projects: Mr. Attic co-founded Choice Cut Records; Mr. Murray produced for LAL; Swiff produced for artists on Black Employed Records. Swiff died of cancer on July 31, 2018, at age 47. The group is connected with Black Employed Records and Conception Records, and their instruments include the sampler, keyboard, and turntable.
