Pierre Bachand
Pierre Bachand (March 22, 1835 – November 3, 1878) was a lawyer and Liberal politician from Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. He was born in Verchères, Lower Canada, and studied law with Louis-Victor Sicotte in Saint-Hyacinthe. He worked as deputy protonotary of the Superior Court and as an assistant clerk of the Circuit Court, then built a large legal practice after forming a partnership in 1862. Bachand helped found a Chamber of Commerce in Saint-Hyacinthe and the Banque de Saint-Hyacinthe, where he served as president until his death.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for Saint-Hyacinthe in 1867 and served as an MLA until 1878, being unopposed in 1871 and 1875. He also engaged with federal matters, working with Honoré Mercier during the Pacific Scandal and helping to organize the Parti National in 1871. Bachand died in Saint-Hyacinthe in 1878 at the age of 43.
