Song Ping
Song Ping (born April 24, 1917) is a veteran Chinese Communist Party leader and retired official. He joined the party in 1937 and rose through its ranks. He served as the Party Secretary of Gansu Province (1977–1981) and as Governor (1977–1979). He was State Councilor (1983–1988) and Chairman of the State Planning Commission (1983–1987). In 1987 he became head of the CCP Central Organization Department (1987–1989).
After the Tiananmen Square protests, Song joined the Politburo Standing Committee (1989–1992) and was part of the conservative faction. He mentored Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao early in their careers. He is married to Chen Shunyao (died 2019) and has two sons, Song Yichang and Song Yichun.
