Paul R. Renne, born in 1957 in San Antonio, Texas, is an American geologist. He is the director of the Berkeley Geochronology Center and Professor in Residence of Geology in the Department of Earth & Planetary Science at UC Berkeley. Renne is a leading expert in argon–argon dating. His work focuses on paleomagnetism in Earth’s history and on dating flood basalts, especially the Siberian Traps, and other large igneous province volcanism, as well as paleoanthropology. He earned his A.B. and Ph.D. in geology from UC Berkeley.
