Kammerberg (Fahrenzhausen)
Kammerberg is a village in the municipality of Fahrenzhausen in the Freising district of Upper Bavaria, Germany. It lies in a rural area with forests, streams and farmland. The B13 road is about one kilometer to the east. The Kammerberger Forest, called Hiakl, is to the south, and the Rettenbach creek runs west of the village. Kammerberg is surrounded by the villages of Gramling, Giebing, Kollbach, Weißling, Lauterbach, Bachenhausen and Viehbach. The area is mostly forests, streams and farmland. The population was 580 in 2011.
History and administration
Kammerberg was first mentioned between 1006 and 1029 as “Perga,” and in 1315 it was called “Chamerberch.” The Kammerberg family served Bavarian dukes as ministerials from the 13th to the 15th centuries, mainly as judges and orderlies. It was a Bavarian Hofmark in the Kranzberg district. The village was not heavily documented as being damaged in the Thirty Years’ War, unlike some neighboring towns. Kammerberg became an independent municipality in 1818, and on 1 May 1978 it was incorporated into the community of Fahrenzhausen.
Landmarks and culture
The local Catholic church was built around 1315, rebuilt in 1610 and again in 1890. There is a family crypt of the Kammerberg family inside the church. During World War II, the bells were melted down for weapons and were replaced with new bells in 1949. Kammerberg Castle/Manor House, built in the 17th–18th centuries, was once a four-wing complex and was surrounded by a moat; the dried-up lake in front of the gate is still visible. Since 1826 the Barons of Vequel-Westernach have lived in the manor.
Education and memorials
A 19th-century schoolhouse was later turned into a Kindergarten in 1998. A two-story guest house and royal post office station, rebuilt around 1900, stands as another historic building. Around 1920 a statue of the Virgin Mary was erected as a war memorial; the stone block lists Kammerberg men who died in World War I and later those who died in World War II.
Sport and energy
Kammerberg has a sports club, Spiel-Vereinigung Kammerberg e.V. Since 2015/2016, Kammerberg and nearby Lauterbach host a large wind turbine (149 meters) and a large solar park. There are plans to build more wind turbines in the area.
