Paul Lewin
Paul Lewin (born 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica) is an artist living in Oakland, California. He moved to Miami with his family when he was five. Influenced by his father, he loved drawing spaceships and jets from sci-fi films. Lewin’s paintings blend Afro-Caribbean folklore and African culture, drawing on stories like Nanny of the Maroons and the idea that Caribbean culture mixes many traditions. He also uses surrealism and science fiction in his work. His art was featured in a San Francisco show celebrating Octavia Butler, and his imagery appeared on the covers of the 2017 Seven Stories Press reissues of Butler’s The Parable of the Talents and The Parable of the Sower. He has had two solo shows at Betti Ono Gallery in Oakland (2015 and 2016).
