Paris Métro Line 19 — a future Grand Paris Express line

What is it?
Line 19 is a planned new metro line in Paris’ metro system. It’s part of the Grand Paris Express project. It was officially announced on November 22, 2023. The line will run from Nanterre–La Folie in the west to Charles de Gaulle Airport and the Triangle de Gonesse area, serving the Val-d’Oise region.

Why it’s being built
The line will connect western suburbs to the airport and to new development areas, making it easier for residents in Val-d’Oise (including Argenteuil and Garges-lès-Gonesse) to reach work, school, and other services. It is meant to boost urban renewal and improve accessibility.

Route and size
- Length: about 25 to 30 kilometers.
- Stations: planned to have 9 to 11 stations, depending on the final route.
- Construction: expected to be mostly underground and fully automated.

What routes were considered?
During early planning for Grand Paris Express, officials from Val-d’Oise raised concerns about how well the new lines would serve the area. In April 2023, plans were announced for Line 19. The early options included:
- A route from Nanterre to Saint-Denis via Argenteuil
- A route from Nanterre to Cergy via Argenteuil
In November 2023, it was stated that Line 19 would eventually connect Nanterre to Triangle de Gonesse, linking with Line 17 toward Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Funding and costs
- The Île-de-France region and Val-d’Oise will fund feasibility studies, totaling about 6 million euros.
- The estimated total construction cost is currently 5 to 6 billion euros.
- The French government’s financial support is being considered.

Timeline
Opening is planned for around 2040, based on current studies and planning.

Stations (examples)
The line will serve key towns in Val-d’Oise and nearby areas. Expected references include Nanterre–La Folie, Argenteuil, Ermont–Eaubonne, Parc des Expositions, Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV, Garges-lès-Gonesse, and the Triangle de Gonesse area, with connections to Line 17 toward CDG. The exact station list will be finalized during planning.
