Lipstick Vogue
Lipstick Vogue is a 3:42 song by Elvis Costello & the Attractions from the 1978 album This Year's Model. It was released on 17 March 1978 and recorded at Eden Studios in London. Written by Elvis Costello and produced by Nick Lowe, it appears as the penultimate track on the album. In his album notes for Girls Girls Girls, Costello recalled that the song was inspired by the rhythms of the Metropolitan line colliding with The Byrds' I See You, though he said the drum pattern was all Pete Thomas's work. Critics praised its energy and Costello's sharp, cynical lyrics. The track starts with a fierce snare-and-tom opening and features a notable drum solo by Thomas. Lipstick Vogue also appears on the live album Live at the El Mocambo.
