Parin's spinyfin (Diretmichthys parini) is a rare but widely distributed deep-sea fish. It is the only species in its genus (monotypic Diretmichthys). Its conservation status is Least Concern. Adults live at depths of 500–2,100 meters and grow up to about 40 cm long. They occur in the Western Pacific, Western Indian, and Eastern Atlantic Oceans, and in the Caribbean Sea, from roughly 40°N to 40°S.

Its body is greyish black and it lacks dorsal spines. It has 26–29 dorsal soft rays, and the tip of the pelvic fin reaches the origin of the anal fin.

It feeds on small crustaceans and plankton and breeds year-round.

During the NORFANZ Expedition in 2003 near New Zealand, 13 specimens averaging about 0.9 kg were collected from nine locations along the Norfolk Ridge.
