Chirkunda
Chirkunda is a city and notified area in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, India. It lies in a coal‑rich upland area, with the Damodar River to the south and the Barakar River to the east, near the border with West Bengal.
In 2011 the town had about 45,500 residents and a literacy rate of around 78%. It covers about 13 square kilometers.
The local economy centers on coal mining and related industries, including fire bricks and hard coke. The nearest railway station is Kumardubi, just 1 kilometer away, and several major trains stop there on the Grand Chord route of the Eastern Railway. Chirkunda has road links to Dhanbad, Tata, Bokaro, Purulia, Asansol, Durgapur, Kolkata, and Burdwan.
For education and services, the town has several schools and colleges, such as SHMS Inter Mahavidyalaya and SCPRP Inter Women’s College. There is a hospital with a few beds, medicine shops, and some banks. Kumardubi is the main nearby gateway for transport and travel.
