Palladium(II,IV) fluoride is a mixed-valence compound of palladium and fluorine. It is best described as palladium(II) hexafluoropalladate(IV), with the formula PdII[PdIVF6] (often written Pd[PdF6] or Pd2F6). Its empirical formula is PdF3. It forms when fluorine gas reacts with metallic palladium and is paramagnetic. In the crystal, both Pd(II) and Pd(IV) sit in octahedral coordination with six fluorine ligands (Rhomb ohedral structure). The Pd(II)–F bond length is about 2.17 Å, while Pd(IV)–F bonds are about 1.90 Å. It appears as a black solid. Related compounds include palladium(II) fluoride and palladium(IV) fluoride.
