Organisation (band)
Organisation was a German experimental krautrock band formed in 1969 and the direct predecessor of Kraftwerk. The group included Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider-Esleben, Basil Hammoudi, Alfred “Fred” Mönicks, and Butch Hauf, with help from Paul Lorenz, Peter Martini and Charly Weiss.
They released one album, Tone Float, produced by Conny Plank and the band, on RCA Victor in 1970. In Germany it was only an import, so sales were poor and RCA dropped the band.
Their last performance as Organisation was on 25 April 1970 at the Grugahalle in Essen, during the Internationales Essener Pop & Blues Festival, where they played “Ruckzuck”—a piece that would appear on Kraftwerk’s first album.
Afterwards, Hütter and Schneider-Esleben left to form Kraftwerk, while Hammoudi, Hauf and Mönicks returned to university. Hammoudi later played with the jazz-rock band Ibliss, alongside Andreas Hohmann.
The band name Organisation was used because RCA wanted a name that would suit the English market for Tone Float.
