Oregon Route 66

Oregon Route 66 is a state highway in Oregon that runs from Ashland to Klamath Falls. It’s also known as the Green Springs Highway No. 21 and is signed from east to west.

The western end starts where OR 99 meets near downtown Ashland. The road goes northeast, crosses Interstate 5, and climbs along the northern edge of the Siskiyou Mountains, passing near Emigrant Reservoir. About six miles east of Ashland, it meets OR 273 near the Klamath Falls Junction. The highway then continues over the mountains and ends at an interchange with US 97 in Klamath Falls. Just west of this interchange, OR 66 briefly overlaps OR 140, which continues east toward Lakeview.

History and length: Before 1934, the stretch from Klamath Falls Junction to Klamath Falls was US 97. When the route to Weed, California was completed, that became US 97 and the Green Springs Highway became OR 66. At that time, the segment west of Klamath Falls Junction (and OR 273 south of there) was US 99. In 1938 a new route over the Siskiyou Pass was built, giving OR 66 its current shape. The highway is about 59 miles long.
