Anne Meagher Northup (born January 22, 1948) is an American Republican politician and educator from Kentucky. She served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1987 to 1997, representing the 32nd district. In 1996 she narrowly won election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Kentucky’s 3rd district and served from 1997 to 2007. While in Congress, she was a member of the House Appropriations Committee and worked to bring federal money to Louisville, including plans for new Ohio River bridges and a veterans’ hospital. She was defeated for re-election in 2006 by John Yarmuth. She ran for Governor of Kentucky in 2007 but lost in the Republican primary to Ernie Fletcher, and she ran again for her old seat in 2008 and was defeated by Yarmuth. In 2009, President Barack Obama nominated her to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, where she served as a commissioner from 2009 to 2012. Northup is married to Woody Northup and has six children; her sister is Olympic swimmer Mary T. Meagher.
