Omar Khan (businessman)
Omar Khan (born 15 January 1959 in Bradford, England) is a British entrepreneur known for his Omar Khan's Indian restaurant and for owning the Bradford Bulls rugby league club. Of Pakistani origin, he opened his Bradford restaurant in 1984 as Shah Jehan, later renaming it Omar Khan's to avoid confusion. The restaurant has won awards including the Best in Britain in 1997, 1998 and 1999 from the Real Curry Restaurant Guide, and Hot Stuff Chef of the Year 1994/95 from TAARO. A second branch opened in Skipton in 2011.
In 2012 he bought the Bradford Bulls as the sole director of OK Bulls Limited, with support from Labour MP Gerry Sutcliffe, and he pursued plans to transform Odsal Stadium into the "Wembley of the North." He is active in Bradford's community through OK In The Community and the OK Academy, helping people with disabilities and young jobseekers, and he supports various charities. In 2005 he helped raise funds for the Telegraph & Argus South Asian Earthquake Appeal, and in 2009 he was appointed Asian ambassador for Bradford City football club. He is no longer involved with the Bradford Bulls due to ill health and old age.
