Offornze Amucheazi
Offornze Amucheazi is a Nigerian professor of law, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and a public official. He serves as the Commissioner for Lands and Urban and Regional Planning in Anambra State and is known for his long legal and teaching career as well as his work in public service.
Early life and education
Amucheazi was born in Anambra State, in southeastern Nigeria, in the mid-1960s. He completed his early education in Anambra State. He earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1990 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991. He later obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Nigeria in 1995 and a Ph.D. from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in 2004. He has also pursued international training, including a Strategic Leadership Management certificate from Oxford University (2014) and a Constitution Building in Africa certificate from Central European University in Budapest (2017).
Career
Amucheazi has a strong academic and legal background. He has taught at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he has held leadership roles in the Faculty of Law, including responsibilities in the departments of Commercial and Property Law and Public and Private Law. He is the founding partner of the law firm Amucheazi, Ozioko and Co., with offices in Abuja and Enugu, focusing on commercial law, property disputes, alternative dispute resolution, and constitutional matters. He is also recognized for mentoring students and for initiating the Prof. Elo Amucheazi Prize for the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Political Science at UNIZIK in 2018, funded at N50,000 annually for an initial 10 years.
Politics
In public service, Amucheazi was nominated and confirmed as Commissioner for Lands in Anambra State in April 2022. In this role, he oversees land administration, surveying, and property development, with a focus on delivering efficient services. He is affiliated with the APGA political party.
Awards and fellowships
Amucheazi is involved with several professional bodies. He is a member of the Lagos Court of Arbitration and has served on neutrals panels for the Edo State and Enugu State Multi-Door Court Houses. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCArb), the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC), and the Institute of Construction Industry Arbitrators (FICIARB). He is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
