Laura (clothing retailer)
Laura's Shoppe Inc., trading as Laura, is a private Canadian retailer of women's clothing based in Laval, Quebec. It was founded in 1930 by Laura Wolstein, with the first Laura store on St. Hubert Street in Montreal. The chain grew gradually: a second store opened in 1973 in the Montreal suburb of St. Laurent, a third in Place Vertu in 1975, and another in les Galeries d'Anjou in 1976.
Today Laura operates multiple divisions—Melanie Lyne, Laura Petites, Laura Plus, and Laura Superstore—under the Laura brand, with stores across Canada. The company’s website is www.laura.ca.
In July 2015, Laura filed for creditor protection with liabilities over $20 million. The company restructured and emerged from protection about four months later. It filed for creditor protection again in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
