Nyamuliro mine

Nyamuliro mine is a large open-pit tungsten mine in the Western Region of Uganda. It sits in the southwestern part of the country. The mine has about 10 million tonnes of ore with an average tungsten grade of 0.5%, making it one of Uganda’s biggest tungsten reserves. In 2016, KI3R Minerals Ltd., a subsidiary of Kerilee Investments, took over the mine from Krone Uganda Ltd. In early 2020, KI3R stopped operations after President Yoweri Museveni ordered a halt to exporting raw minerals, leaving about 2,200 workers unemployed. The Nyamuliro Wolfram Workers Association protested the closure.
