Island Lark is a Chesapeake Bay log canoe built in 1901. It was restored in 1971 by John Chamberlin. The boat is about 34 feet 11 inches long and 6 feet 9 inches wide. It is double-ended with a sharp stem at the bow and a sharp stern. Privately owned, Island Lark is raced on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and carries the number 16. It is one of the last 22 traditional Chesapeake Bay racing log canoes, a racing tradition started in the 1840s. The boat is based in St. Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
