Peter James Steinberger is a professor of political philosophy at Reed College. He served as Reed’s thirteenth president, and was followed by Colin Diver.

Steinberger has been part of Reed College’s faculty since 1977. He’s taught many classes over the years, reportedly in the same room for about 35 years. He has also written editorial columns for publications such as The Oregonian, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, and The New York Times. In addition to his books, he has published numerous articles on political philosophy, with a special focus on the work and influence of Hegel in leading journals like the American Political Science Review.
