Niilo Moilanen
Niilo Moilanen (born 17 May 2001) is a Finnish cross-country skier. He became well known after winning gold in the sprint at the 2021 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Vuokatti, plus a silver in the relay. He was the first Finnish man to win the junior Worlds sprint and he is strong in the classical style.
He made his World Cup debut in November 2021 in Ruka, finishing 22nd in the sprint, and again 22nd in Lillehammer in December. In the 2022–23 season he reached the top 20 for the first time with 18th in Ruka and then 8th in Beitostølen in December. After Lillehammer, he finished in the top 30 in every World Cup race, with 12th as his best result. One tougher outing was in Lahti, where he fell three times and did not reach the sprint.
Moilanen competed at the 2023 World Championships, finishing 21st in the sprint and 11th in the team sprint. In the 2023–24 World Cup his best finish was 11th in the sprint in Canmore.
In the summer of 2024 he crashed with a cyclist while roller skiing, suffering multiple fractures to the face and jaw.
