Newport is a city in Jackson County, Arkansas, and the county seat. It sits on the White River, about 84 miles northeast of Little Rock.

As of 2020, about 8,005 people lived there, with a 2024 estimate of around 8,049.

The city covers about 13.8 square miles, mostly land, and sits about 233 feet above sea level. Newport has a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild to cool winters.

Newport is part of notable history, including a Ben Franklin store owned by Sam Walton before he started Wal‑Mart. The town has ten properties on the National Register of Historic Places.

Near Newport, the Grimes Unit and McPherson Unit prisons of the Arkansas Department of Correction are located about four miles east of downtown and house the state's death row for women.

Education is provided by the Newport School District, including Newport High School. Arkansas State University–Newport has its main campus in the city.
