Aydın Pınarbaşı-Aytepe Gondola
The Aydın Pınarbaşı-Aytepe Gondola is a two-station aerial gondola in Aydın, Turkey, connecting Pınarbaşı on the west with Aytepe on the east (Moon Hill). The line is 563 meters long and has five support towers. It was built by STM Sistem Teleferik of İzmir at a cost of about 2.62 million Turkish lira (around $1.58 million in 2009). Construction began in September 2008 and it opened in March 2009.
Technical details include six gondolas arranged in two sets of three, providing a capacity of up to 216 passengers per hour. The ride lasts about five minutes. The system operates at up to 3 meters per second, with a 100 kW power supply and 41 mm cables.
Ownership and operation are by the Aydın Municipality. The line was closed in April 2009 shortly after opening due to a lack of trained personnel after a new mayor took office. Local residents pushed for its return, and it reopened for free use in September 2011 after overhaul, but closed again. It finally reopened on October 8, 2012. Hours are 8:00–17:00 on weekdays and 9:00–17:30 on weekends. There is no night operation because there is no lighting, though there are plans to install lighting to extend hours.
Fare is 1.50 Turkish lira per ride.
