New Sunrise (Brenda Lee album)
New Sunrise is a studio album by American singer Brenda Lee, released in November 1973 on MCA Records. It was her 23rd studio album and marked her return to country music in the 1970s. The album has 11 tracks, including covers like You Are the Sunshine of My Life and Paul McCartney’s My Love. Although produced during her country-focused period with Owen Bradley, Bradley isn’t credited on the project.
Two singles from the album reached the top ten on country charts: Sunday Sunrise (issued July 1973) peaked at number six in the United States and number eight in Canada, while Wrong Ideas (issued December 1973) peaked at number six in the United States and number five in Canada.
New Sunrise climbed the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, reaching number seven after 25 weeks. It was released as a vinyl LP and an 8-track cartridge. The reception was mixed: Billboard and Cash Box praised Lee’s vocal performance and song choices, while AllMusic gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars, noting the singles stood out but the rest of the album sounded similar to her 1960s work.
