New River, or Nieuwe Rivier in Dutch, is a river in the southeastern part of Guyana, South America. It forms the western border of the Tigri Area, also known as the New River Triangle, a region claimed by both Guyana and Suriname. In 1965, Suriname began calling the river the Upper Corantyne River as part of its claim.

The river starts in the Acarai Mountains and flows into the Courantyne River, together with the Coeroeni River. The Oronoque River is a major tributary and lies within the Tigri Area.

The area has seen conflict. A 1967 skirmish occurred between the Guyana Police Force and a Surinamese labor camp. In August 1969, Guyana launched Operation Climax to remove Surinamese personnel from the area; Suriname withdrew, detainees were released, and there were no reported casualties.

Despite the dispute, illegal mining happens there. In 1993, the Guyana Defence Force reported alluvial mining by Brazilian nationals.
