Pie Creek
Pie Creek is a rural locality in the Gympie Region of Queensland, Australia. It sits about 8 kilometers southwest of Gympie and around 177 kilometers north of Brisbane. The area covers about 21.4 square kilometers and had a population of 1,137 people in 2021.
Geography and land use: Eel Creek forms part of the northern boundary. The Pie Creek watercourse starts in nearby Mooloo, flows north through Pie Creek, and then becomes a tributary of Eel Creek. Most land is used for grazing on native vegetation and for rural homes.
History and community: Pie Creek Provisional School opened around 1896 and became Pie Creek State School in 1909; it closed in 1962. The old school site is at 494 Eel Creek Road. The Pie Creek Community Hall opened in 1903 on land donated by E. B. Barnes and was used for religious services, meetings and social events. It is now run by volunteers as a multifunctional community facility at the corner of Eel Creek Road and Herron Road. The hall was managed by the council from 1967 and by a local committee since 1996.
Education: There are no schools in Pie Creek. The nearest primary schools are Gympie South State School in Southside and Jones Hill State School in Jones Hill. The nearest secondary schools are James Nash State High School and Gympie State High School in Gympie.
Facilities: The Gympie South Rural Fire Station is located at Regan Road and Lawson Road.
Population trend: 1,013 in 2016; 1,137 in 2021.
