New Empire, Vol. 1
New Empire, Vol. 1 is the sixth studio album by Hollywood Undead. It was released on February 14, 2020, through Dove & Grenade Media and BMG, and produced by Matt Good. The album runs about 32 minutes and blends metalcore, nu metal, hard rock, and post-hardcore.
Ahead of the album, the band released three singles: "Already Dead" on October 25, 2019 (with a video on October 31), "Time Bomb" on November 15, 2019, and "Empire" on January 10, 2020 (with a video released later). George “Johnny 3 Tears” Ragan described the project as an effort to reimagine Hollywood Undead, creating a new sound that still fits with the band’s past work.
The band confirmed guest appearances from Benji Madden (Good Charlotte), Kellin Quinn (Sleeping with Sirens), and rapper Killstation on the album, as discussed on Shane Told’s Lead Singer Syndrome podcast.
The album received positive reviews. AllMusic praised its tight 32-minute runtime, energetic mix of djent-like breakdowns, electronics, West Coast rap verses, and catchy choruses. Kerrang! gave a favorable review, especially praising the track "Empire" and the features. Wall of Sound also highlighted the production quality and the band’s reimagining, recommending the album for post-hardcore listeners. Overall, New Empire, Vol. 1 is seen as a solid, energetic step into a new era for Hollywood Undead.
