Nestor of Tarsus

Nestor of Tarsus was an ancient Greek Stoic philosopher from Tarsus in Cilicia. He studied at a Stoic school in Athens. Very little else is known about his life. His biography was once included in Diogenes Laertius’ Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers, but that part of the book has disappeared; only a mention of his name remains in the table of contents. He was a contemporary of Panaetius and may have been his student or fellow pupil. He is sometimes confused with another Nestor of Tarsus, who was said to have taught Tiberius, but that Nestor lived in the first century AD, so they are not the same person.
