Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering (Polish: Wydział Mechaniczny Energetyki i Lotnictwa, MEL, MEiL) is at the Central Campus of the Warsaw University of Technology. It has three units: the Institute of Heat Engineering, the Institute of Aeronautics and Applied Mechanics, and the Dean's Office. The faculty was created in 1960 by merging the Faculty of Aviation and the Faculty of Mechanics and Constructions, with Władysław Fiszdon as the first dean. In 1970, the government planned to wind down the aerospace sector and aviation courses were banned, so the faculty was renamed to the Faculty of Mechanical and Thermal Power; in May 1970 the decision was reversed and the faculty returned to its original name.
