John Richard Schneider (born April 8, 1960) is an American actor and singer. He is best known for playing Bo Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, Jonathan Kent in Smallville, and Jim Cryer in The Haves and the Have Nots. He has also had a long country music career with several hit songs and albums. In addition to acting and singing, he runs John Schneider Studios in Holden, Louisiana, where he produces independent films.

Early life
Schneider was born in Mount Kisco, New York, the youngest of three boys. His family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when he was 14. He began performing at a young age, doing magic shows as a child and later pursuing acting.

acting career
He landed the role of Bo Duke at 18 and became a household name on The Dukes of Hazzard. The show ran from 1979 to 1985 and he directed the finale. He also appeared on many other TV series and films, including Hee Haw, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, CSI, Desperate Housewives, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. He played Jonathan Kent in 100 episodes of Smallville (2001–2011), and he returned for a recurring role in season 10. He starred in the film Doonby (2011) and later appeared in The Haves and the Have Nots (2013–2021). In 2018, he competed on Dancing with the Stars and in 2023 took part in The Masked Singer as “Donut,” finishing in second place.

music career
Schneider has released several country music albums and singles since the early 1980s, including chart-topping hits like “I’ve Been Around Enough to Know” and “Country Girls.” He also founded FaithWorks Productions to create family-friendly videos and recordings. He and his music have earned him recognition, including an induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2019.

Schneider owns John Schneider Studios (JSS) in Louisiana, a facility for writing, producing, and filming independent movies. He has appeared in stage productions and has done voice work for projects such as the Word of Promise audio Bible series.
