Myriam Skaff
Myriam Skaff (born 1968) is a Lebanese politician and the leader of the Popular Bloc. She comes from the Skaff family in Zahle.
Early life and education:
- Skaff studied at Athenee de Beyrouth.
- She earned a BA in Social Sciences from the American International University in London.
- She also has a diploma in Women's Studies and worked in marketing for two French companies.
In politics:
- After her husband Elias Skaff died on October 10, 2015, she became head of the Popular Bloc.
- In Zahle’s 2016 municipal elections, the bloc tried to form a coalition with the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces but failed; the bloc then ran against the Christian parties and Nicolas Fattouche’s list, breaking with the Change and Reform bloc.
- The party returned in the 2018 Lebanese general elections but did not win any seats, earning 10,563 votes; Skaff said Lebanese Forces supporters attacked her car.
- In 2022, she announced her candidacy for the Greek Catholic seat in Bekaa I (Zahle), leading a six-member list, but again did not win a seat.
Personal life:
- In 1995, she married former minister and MP Elias Skaff, and they have two children: Joseph and Gibran.
- She is a cousin of Sethrida Geagea, wife of Samir Geagea.
