Kol Aghassi
Kol Aghassi, also written Kol Ağası or Kolağasi, was a senior military rank in the Ottoman Army. It was roughly equivalent to a Senior Captain or Adjutant Major. The name combines Kol (column) and Ağa (chief). The rank stood between Captain (Yüzbaşı) and Major (Binbaşı): it was higher than a Captain but lower than a Major. Although it was a single rank, Kol Aghası had two forms: Sağ Kolağası (Right Flank) and Sol Kolağası (Left Flank). The Sağ Kolağası was senior to the Sol Kolağası. After the rank of Captain, an officer would first become Sol Kolağası, then could become Sağ Kolağası.
