Mr. Bobby

Mr. Bobby is the last single from Manu Chao’s second album, Próxima Estación: Esperanza. It was released on 9 September 2002 and is a tribute to reggae legend Bob Marley. A simpler, stripped-down version of the song first appeared in 1998 on the Bongo Bong single. The track found success in Europe, especially in Spain, Italy, and Switzerland. In live shows, Chao’s band often plays the Politik Kills version, which is more reggae-influenced than the album version (the album version uses the same backing as Bongo Bong). A music video for Mr. Bobby, directed by Run Wrake, is mostly animated with the singer shown. In 2009, American rapper B.o.B recorded a cover with original lyrics for his mixtape B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray.
