Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians

Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians is a federally recognized Native American tribe in northern California. The people are from the Concow and Maidu groups, part of the Northwest Maidu language tradition. Today, English is spoken, but Northwest Maidu and Concow/Maidu heritage are important to the community.

Location and government:
The tribe’s headquarters are in Oroville, California. It is governed by a democratically elected tribal council, and the current tribal chair is Ben Clark.

Reservation:
The Mooretown Rancheria Reservation covers about 109 acres in Oroville East, near the city of Oroville.

Education:
Children on the rancheria attend the Palermo Union Elementary School District and the Oroville Union High School District.

Economic development:
The tribe runs Feather Falls Casino, Feather Falls Casino Brewing Company, The Lodge at Feather Falls Casino, KOA Kampground, Feather Falls Mini Mart, and Feather Smoke Shop, all located in Oroville.

Language and culture:
The Mooretown Rancheria is part of the Northwest Maidu and historically spoke Concow and Maidu. Today, the community still honors its linguistic and cultural heritage while using English.
