Dennis Coi

Dennis Coi (August 11, 1961 – September 1, 1987) was a Canadian figure skater. He was the 1978 World Junior Champion and the 1982 Canadian bronze medalist in singles. He also skated in pairs with Julie Mutchen and won the 1974 Canadian novice bronze medal.

Coi was gay and did not come out to his family until he was diagnosed with HIV. He died of AIDS in 1987 at age 26, during a period when several Canadian skaters died from AIDS, which the media described as a crisis for the sport.
