Be My Lover (Alice Cooper song)
Be My Lover is a song by American rock band Alice Cooper from the 1971 album Killer. It was released in February 1972 as the second single from the album. The song was written by guitarist Michael Bruce and produced by Bob Ezrin.
The lyrics are semi-autobiographical, spoken from the viewpoint of a musician trying to seduce a woman and explain what he does for a living. He mentions coming from Detroit and playing guitar in a long-haired rock and roll band, and the woman even asks why the singer’s name is Alice.
Be My Lover reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for ten weeks. Record World called it Alice Cooper’s best single since “Eighteen,” while Cash Box described it as an autobiographical groupie tune that could outdistance “Under My Wheels” and approach the success of “Eighteen.”
The US single’s B-side was “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and the UK release used “You Drive Me Nervous” as the B-side.
