The Magnificent Evans
The Magnificent Evans is a British comedy from 1984 written by Roy Clarke. It stars Ronnie Barker as Plantagenet Evans, a Welsh photographer who is confident, a bit bossy, and quick to judge others, but still likeable. Sharon Morgan plays his fiancée, Rachel, who also helps him and tries to keep his attention on work. Myfanwy Talog is another cast member.
The show was filmed at the old Gwalia bakery in Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys.
It ran for one series of six half-hour episodes on BBC1, from 6 September to 11 October 1984. Roy Clarke, who also wrote Open All Hours, Last of the Summer Wine, and Keeping Up Appearances, created it.
Although it was eagerly anticipated, only one series was made and the BBC never repeated it. The Magnificent Evans is available on Region 1 and Region 2 DVD as part of The Ultimate Ronnie Barker DVD Collection.
