Mild and Bitter
Mild and Bitter is a 1936 humor book by British writer A. P. Herbert. It collects 57 humorous pieces and poems, mostly from Punch, with some coming from the Evening Standard and the Strand Magazine, and a few performed in C. B. Cochran’s Streamline revue. One piece is a first-hand account of counting votes under the single transferable vote during Herbert’s 1935 election bid for Oxford University. The title alludes to a British drink made from equal parts mild ale and bitter beer.
