Michael Bailey (born February 18, 1979) is an American writer and editor who focuses on horror and science fiction, often mixing in mystery, western, and thriller elements with speculative ideas. His work tends to be psychological or literary horror. He has written many novels, novellas, short stories, and poetry collections. His writing mentors include Douglas E. Winter, F. Paul Wilson, Gary A. Braunbeck, and Jack Ketchum.

Bailey also mentors new writers and works as a Senior Editor at a publishing house, where he leads a team of developmental editors. He wrote the screenplay for Madness and Writers: The Untold Truth. He runs the small press Written Backwards, which publishes anthologies and other books that include poetry and artwork. He also designs covers and interior layouts for authors.

Bailey lives in Costa Rica, where he is rebuilding his life after surviving a major California wildfire, an experience he recounts in his memoir Seven Minutes. When he isn’t working on his own projects, he teaches and mentors other writers. All Written Backwards books are designed by Michael Bailey, including original artwork.
