Shakerley Colliery (Greens)
Shakerley Colliery (Greens) was a coal mine on the Manchester Coalfield near Shakerley, Tyldesley, in Greater Manchester, England (historic Lancashire). It was started in 1867 and was in use by 1878. The mine on Shakerley Common had a single shaft sunk to the Rams seam at about 300 feet, dug by George Green to mine the Middle Coal Measures of the Lancashire Coalfield. It joined the Tyldesley Coal Company in 1870. It had the country’s first iron headgear, but it closed in 1886. Location: 53.5182°N, -2.4694°W.
