The Meyer zum Pfeil was a wealthy Basel patrician family in Switzerland. They first appear in Basel in the 15th century and became one of the city’s oldest and most influential families, alongside a few others. They were successful cloth merchants, and many relatives served on Basel’s council or as mayor. The family name comes from the arrow in their coat of arms. Members used the noble title Junker from early on. Notable people include Nikolaus Meyer zum Pfeil, a Renaissance humanist; Adelberg Meyer zum Pfeil, a politician; and Bernhard Meyer zum Pfeil, a Basel mayor.
